Fall Classic Final Game Draws Over 50 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extended matchup that saw the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a total 51M watchers in the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB stated this represents the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a 16% increase over the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language program in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match series averaged 15.71M viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the total US average reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million viewers, an 8% rise compared to the previous year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 various tongues.
