The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video soon, and fan speculation has been widespread.
The first season presents a diverse group of characters residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds accompanied by songs about their clashes, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the creator commented recently. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season moves, and how many of what they're waiting for unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a couple people create a prediction grid about the new season," she mentions. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on October 29.
