An individual who laced sweets with sedative and provided them to children at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual offenses against two young males aged nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and an older person became sick at the facility in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
However, he disputed a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
The accused was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.
She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer program which he ran.
Ruben engaged in a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She told the court the man had played this game with the boys "for many years", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She said Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "This year his stepson had worries about the activities, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel explained objects including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were located, and his stepson notified the authorities about his worries.
She stated Ruben went on to play the "sweet game" with six children that evening - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she added.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The legal representative explained the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement again.
She said the man then played the "candy game" in a area of five youngsters.
