The anticipation about The Game Awards has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team could be building a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this legendary franchise.
